El Paso police arrest Richard Praytor, accused of 2023 murder of mother

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- El Paso Police have arrested a man for allegedly murdering his mother in El Paso three years ago by running her over.

According to a release, 49-year-old Richard Praytor initially told police he found his mother underneath a vehicle on the 4500 block of Sky Hawk in northeast El Paso. Special traffic investigators responded and at first determined that 79-year-old Maria Praytor had been accidently run over.

Investigators said they later found that Richard had intentionally murdered his mother. El Paso police worked with the Colorado Springs Police Department to find, interview and then extradite Richard to El Paso.

El Paso County jail records show Richard was booked into the downtown jail for murder with a $1,000,000 bond. He has a bond hearing set for Wednesday morning.
