Canutillo ISD opens shelters at two campuses to help families affected by storms

CANUTILLO, Texas (KVIA) - Canutillo High School and Davenport Elementary School will open as emergency shelter areas for families affected by today's storms.

The facilities will open at 4 p.m. and will be operated by the district with assistance from the American Red Cross and the El Paso City-County Emergency Operation Management District (OEM).

The school shelters will be open to residents in the Northwest, Canutillo, and Vinton communities.

Canutillo High School shelter is at 6675 S. Desert Blvd. and the Davenport Elementary School shelter is at 8401 Remington Dr.

Basic services will be available to include:

• Dry and safe sleeping areas
• Clean drinking water
• Basic food services
• First aid
• Internet

Personnel from Canutillo ISD and volunteers are available at each shelter to help individuals and families in need.

Anyone arriving at the shelters will be required to sign in on arrival and out when leaving.

Canutillo ISD Police will monitor the shelters and provide security.

The shelters will close once they are no longer needed or if the district determines a lack of need for their operation.
