Police unit struck by another vehicle, injures officers

El Paso Police are investigating an officer-involved collision on US 54.

Police said an officer executed a traffic stop around 11 p.m. on a 1994 Cadillac.

The Cadillac and police vehicle moved to the shoulder of the road, off of US 54, and the officers inside their vehicle exited, officials said.

According to police, while walking to the Cadillac a 2008 Mustang hit the rear of the officers’ vehicle.

The collision caused a chain reaction, knocking the police unit into the Cadillac and into the officers.

Both officers, two people from the Cadillac and the driver of the Mustang were taken to University Medical Center.

Their injuries were all non-life-threatening.

An investigation continues into the incident, but a lieutenant with the Central Regional Command Centertold ABC-7 one person was taken into custody with DWI charges pending.
