Villa Maria fundraiser supports women

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — Villa Maria is preparing for its annual Wine & Tapas Night, a fundraiser supporting unhoused women as they work toward self-sufficiency.

Laura Rayborn, board president of Villa Maria, joined ABC-7 at noon to discuss the fundraiser and the organization’s work in the El Paso community.

Rayborn said Villa Maria has helped more than 900 women transition toward greater independence. The organization has 22 rooms where women can stay for up to a year and a half while receiving support with education, employment and other needs.

Wine & Tapas Night will feature wines, food from 14 participating restaurants, live music and a silent auction. Proceeds will help Villa Maria continue providing services to women in need.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 8, from 6 to 10 p.m. at St. Roger’s Depot. Tickets are $75.

Rayborn said Villa Maria is also looking for volunteers, sponsors and new board members to help support its mission.

For tickets or more information, call 915-820-3734 or visit Villa Maria’s website.
