EPPD: Woman who caused collision that injured two now in jail

Police have arrested a young woman for allegedly causing a serious car collision that injured two early Thursday morning. They say she’d been drinking.

Desiree Skaf, 21, was booked into the El Paso County jail Friday with two counts of accident involving personal injury or death and one count of intoxicated assault.

Police say Skaf was at the wheel when her vehicle rear-ended a 2008 Mazda 3 driving on the 5900 block of Doniphan Thursday. In it were 27-year-old Iris Bustamante and her passeger, 25-year-old Janet Balderrama.

According to police, Skaf’s vehicle slammed into Bustamante’s and ran it off the road, causing it to crash into a utility pole.

But Skaf didn’t stop to help, detectives say.

Her car stalled a few blocks away at Doniphan and Montoya, and that’s when police say they found her.

Bustamante and Balderrama were taken to University Medical Center. Balderrama suffered serious life threatening injuries, police said.
