Injured owl rescued by state troopers, taken to El Paso Zoo for treatment

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper helped rescue a great horned owl, named "Big Tejano" by the trooper.

According to a Texas DPS social media post, Trooper Raymond Torres found an injured owl in the center median of the interstate near Van Horn.

Trooper Torres transported Big Tejano to the DPS Van Horn office, where Texas Parks and Wildlife personnel took over to get the owl the medical attention he needed.

According to the post, the injured owl was transported to the El Paso Zoo, where he spent the night receiving care from zoo staff. Big Tejano was given fluids, food, and water as part of his treatment and has been checked for any additional internal injuries.
