Sunland Park fires city manager

Sunland Park’s city council decided to fire City Manager Vernon Wilson Tuesday evening.

The vote came down with five councilors voting yes, one abstaining.

On Monday, Wilson told ABC-7’s Josie Ortegon he has had leadership disagreements with city leaders, but did not understand why his job was on the chopping block.

Wilson claims his contract stipulates he is owed $80,000 in severance pay. Sunland Park’s mayor Javier Perea said he’s not positive that is true.

Wilson addressed council after the vote and urged them to spend money responsibly.
