Borderland businesses offer discounts, deals for veterans
Restaurant owners and managers are feeling extra generous on this Veterans Day.
For some veterans, a simple ‘thank you’ can go a long way, but some free donuts or even a complementary meal can add that extra touch of appreciation.
If you’re in the mood for something sweet or looking for a place to have dinner, there are several businesses giving discounts or taking care of your tab.

A veteran ABC-7 spoke with from Arizona was just passing through El Paso Tuesday afternoon. He was surprised to learn he didn’t have to pay for his club sandwich at Chili’s Restaurant.
In Las Cruces, Raymond Mikel, a Vietnam veteran enjoyed his lunch at Texas Roadhouse. He told ABC-7 he’s noticed more appreciation for veterans in recent years.
“I think it’s great that they do this for the veterans, for so many years we weren’t recognized and it really makes us feel good to finally be recognized for what we have done and I really do appreciate it,” said Mikel.
He also took time to reflect on how the times have changed for servicemen and women.
“I really feel for the veterans now because when I was in, you normally had to do one tour. The way it is now, they’re doing two or three tours. I really feel for them and I’m sorry they have to do that,” he said.
