EL PASO, Texas (KVIA)-- The City of El Paso's Office of Emergency Management activated the Emergency Operations Center at a Level 3, Increased Readiness in response to severe weather.

They said that there was a water rescue involving a car on South Desert Boulevard, no injuries were reported according to officials.

Emergency crews also responded to flooding near Dawnlight in west El Paso. The city says that 16 homes were evacuated. The Red Cross and Sun Metro were called to help affected families and with evacuations.

El Paso Water also sent water vacuum trucks to help with the flooding in the area.

The city says rescue teams are across the city as a precaution.

District one City Rep. Alejandra Chavez released the following statement:

“Tonight, I was in the Dawnlight area with residents, first responders, and City crews after flooding impacted several homes and resulted in the evacuation of 16 households.

My heart goes out to the families affected. I’m grateful to our first responders, City crews, the Red Cross, and other partners who responded quickly to help our residents. Everyone who had to leave their home has a safe place to stay tonight, and EP Water crews are assisting with water removal.

While the rain has eased, I encourage everyone to remain cautious, particularly on wet or flooded roads.

This is my community, and these are my neighbors. My thoughts are with the families impacted tonight, and I’m grateful to everyone who stepped up to help.”
