El Paso Inc.: City has 2 proposals for Northeast water park; talks with bidder Hawaiian Falls go back 2 years

Big things may soon be in store for Northeast El Paso.

The city has two proposals in hand for a multi-million dollar project that includes a water park, adventure park and athletic complex. But there will be a lot of questions along the way.

The site is 39 acres of city-owned land around Cohen Stadium. Cary Westin, El Paso’s economic development director, said the city has high hopes for the project.

“We see a lot of good growth opportunities in Northeast ElPaso and thought it was just areally a good fit,” Westin said. “From a strategy point of view, we’re trying to continue to focus on our quality of place by adding amenities that make El Paso a great place to live and work.
