Russian students visit El Paso
EL PASO, TX — Russian students, 6,000 miles away from home, are getting a taste of the Borderland as part of a student exchange program at the Alicia Chacon International School.
The students from Moscow, 7th through 10th graders, are staying with local families. Over the next two weeks, they will be taking field trips to places like Carlsbad Caverns and the War Eagles Museum. .They will also explore our area’s many monuments and learn more about the Sun City.
The students — from one of the top schools in Russia — were at today’s City Council meeting. City Council members gave them a key to the city. Kirill Krupin said he’s happy to be here and can’t wait to meet the friendly people of El Paso.
“This is the best way to understand other people and nationalities, talk with them and take the experience from first hand to understand them better,” he said.
The student exchange program was started in 2003 by Russian language teacher, Natalia Tchoshanova. She said it is important to learn a different language.
She adds students need to see how people from different parts of the world live, to get a better understanding of the cultures.
