Chihuahuas Finalize Roster
The Chihuahuas season begins on Thursday. The team has announced that it has finalized its roster for the 2015 season. Below is the roster from the release provided by the Chihuahuas.
Pitchers:
Leonel Campos:The 27-year-old was on the inaugural Chihuahuas roster in 2014 and also spent time with Double-A San Antonio and San Diego last season.
Scott Elbert:The 29-year-old enters his 12 th professional season and his first away from the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. Elbert spent parts of six seasons in the Major Leagues with the Dodgers.
Robbie Erlin:The 24-year-old is entering his seventh professional season. Erlin spent parts of 2013 and 2014 in the Major Leagues with San Diego.
Casey Kelly:The 25-year-old is entering his eighth professional season. Kelly missed most of 2013 and 2014 recovering from Tommy John surgery. He was originally acquired by the Padres from the Boston Red Sox in the 2010 Adrian Gonzalez trade.
Stephen Kohlscheen:The 24-year-old is entering his sixth professional season. Kohlscheen joined the Padres organization in July of 2014 after a trade with the Seattle Mariners.
Jason Lane:The 38-year-old is entering his 17 th professional season. He played six seasons in the Major Leagues as an outfielder with Houston and San Diego before converting to pitching. He appeared in three games with the Padres as a pitcher in 2014, posting a 0.87 ERA.
Marcos Mateo:The 30-year-old is entering his 10th professional season. Mateo pitched in the Major Leagues with the Chicago Cubs in 2010 and 2011.
Brandon Maurer:The 24-year-old is entering his eighth professional season. He was acquired by San Diego on December 30 , 2014 from Seattle in the deal that sent OF Seth Smith to the Mariners.
Cory Mazzoni:The 25-year-old enters his fifth professional season and his first in the Padres organization. Mazzoni was traded from the Mets on March 30 , 2015 in the deal that sent LHP Alex Torres to the New York Mets.
James Needy:The 24-year-old is entering his sixth professional season. This will be his first stint in Triple-A. Needy was a Double-A Texas League All-Star in 2014.
Aaron Northcraft:The 24-year-old enters his seventh professional season. He joined the Padres organization with Justin Upton on December 19 , 2014 in a trade with the Atlanta Braves.
Chris Rearick:The 27-year-old is entering his sixth professional season. Rearick had a 2.72 ERA in 33 games with the 2014 Chihuahuas.
Kevin Quackenbush:The 26-year-old is entering his fifth professional season. Quackenbush had a 2.48 ERA in 56 games with San Diego in 2014.
Catchers:
Rocky Gale:The 27-year-old enters his sixth professional season. Gale was with El Paso in 2014 and hit .303 in 77 games for the inaugural Chihuahuas.
Austin Hedges:The 22-year-old is entering his fifth professional season. Hedges is regarded as one of the top catching prospects in all of Minor League Baseball. He was originally selected in the second round of the 2011 draft by the Padres.
Infielders:
Cody Decker:The 28-year-old is entering his seventh professional season, all in the Padres organization. Decker led the 2014 Chihuahuas in home runs (27) and RBIs (79).
Alex Dickerson:The 24-year-old is entering his fifth professional season. Dickerson’s first game with El Paso will be his Triple-A debut. He was acquired by the Padres in November of 2013 in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Taylor Lindsey:The 23-year-old is entering his sixth professional season. He was acquired by San Diego in July of 2014 in the trade that sent RHP Huston Street to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Lindsey split last season between Salt Lake and El Paso.
Mike McCoy:The 34-year-old is entering his 13 th professional season. McCoy has Major League time with the Colorado Rockies and Toronto Blue Jays.
Ramiro Pena:The 29-year-old from Monterrey, Mexico is entering his 11 th professional season. Pena has spent parts of six years in the Major Leagues with the New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves.
Brett Wallace:The 28-year-old is entering his eighth professional season and first in the Padres organization. Wallace played in the Major Leagues with the Houston Astros from 2010-2013. Chihuahuas manager Pat Murphy coached Wallace in college at Arizona State.
Outfielders:
Abraham Almonte:The 25-year-old enters his first full season in the Padres organization after being traded from the Seattle Mariners in July of 2011. Almonte has reached the Major Leagues with both Seattle and San Diego.
Jake Goebbert:The 27-year-old is entering his seventh professional season. He joined the 2014 Chihuahuas in a midseason trade with the Oakland Athletics and later made his Major League debut with San Diego, playing in 51 games with the Padres.
Rymer Liriano:The 23-year-old is entering his seventh professional season, all in the Padres organization. Liriano went from Double-A San Antonio to El Paso to San Diego in 2014.
Tommy Medica:The 26-year-old is entering his sixth professional season. Medica was one of the Padres best Spring Training hitters, delivering a .421 batting average.
