Local ‘The Great Christmas Light Fight’ champions donate to charities

After months of anticipation, the local The Great Christmas Light Fight” champions donated their winnings to charities.

Cameras have been following insurance icon Fred Loya’s family since the hit ABC show filmed in El Paso last October.

“Feels great to be able to do with it what we wanted to do since the beginning,” Loya said of the $50,000 in winnings. The champs split the winnings amongst 10 local charities. The checks written for $5,000 a piece went to smiling faces Monday.

The full list of charities is as follows:

Annunciation House
Make-A-Wish Foundation
YMCA of El Paso
Rebuilding Together El Paso
Children’s Grief Center of El Paso
Wounded Warriors Program
Child Crisis Center of El Paso
Villa Maria
Miracle League of El Paso
Adopt A Senior

“Without community partners like Mr. and Mrs. Loya we could not do what we do, which is to provide life-changing wishes to children fighting life conditions in the El Paso area,” Natalie Eckberg, from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, said.

The Loyas’ far east El Paso display included more than 420,000 bulbs. It defeated three other families’ displays during their featured episode. Loya told ABC-7 he’s looking forward to doing it all over again for the 11th year.
