Local teens participate in high school bowling championships

The first Prices Give ‘Em Five High School Bowling City Championships took place Sunday at the El Paso Convention Center.

The same venue will be hosting the USBC Open Championships starting Saturday, but local high schoolers got to test out the lanes before the massive bowling tournament takes over the Sun City. The USBC Open Championships will take place over the next four months and is expected to bring 60,000 bowlers and at least $75 million to the city.

Nearly 90 teens got to experience the venue while vying for trophies and organizers are already hoping to make the championships an annual event.

Event organizer Wayne Thornton said the schools were ranked in the top four overall. The winners were:

1st place – El Dorado High School
2nd place- Canutillo High School
3rd place – Hanks High School
4th place – Riverside High School

Thornton hopes the event inspired teens to pick up bowling as a lifelong sport.
