El Paso City Council agrees to give company until end of May to finish Northeast park

The City of El Paso will not terminate the contract with the construction company hired to complete a Northeast park.

Barron Park, located on the 11000 block of Rogers Hornsby St., was supposed to be completed last summer but is months behind schedule.

Instead of terminating the contract, City Council voted unanimously to extend the project and hold the company – Spartan Construction – to hard deadlines to ave the park completed by May 30.

Spartan Construction itself set the timeline and promised to stick to it.

When ABC-7 spoke with the company’s president on Monday, April 6, he said the delay was due to weather, a design flaw, and changes in the orders.

He also blamed the people in the City’s Parks and Recreation Department.

Now that the deadline has been set, City Council members are hopeful Spartan Construction will keep its promise.
