Las Cruces Police say teen breaks into wrong home to collect $40

Las Cruces Police arrested a man for allegedly breaking into the wrong home while trying to collect a debt allegedly owed to him.

Christopher Angel Calzada, 19, is charged with one count each of residential burglary and conspiracy. He also was found to have a warrant for his arrest out of Magistrate Court.

Police were sent to a home on High Street at about 1 a.m. on April 6. Three children, ages 3 to 15, were inside the home at the time.

Police say that Calzada was trying to collect on a $40 loan but went to the wrong house.

When he learned that the subject for which he sought did not live there, Calzada allegedly broke at least one window to gain access to the home.

The three children inside hid in a bathroom and the oldest called 911.

Police say that Calzada then left the home with a 42-inch TV and a Sony Playstation.

Police found Calzada a couple of hours later at his residence.

Police believe Calzada had help from at least two other men who police have yet to positively identify.

Anyone who can help identify the men who accompanied Calzada is asked to call Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or send a tip by text message to CRIMES (274637), keyword LCTIPS.

Calzada was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he is being held without bond.
