UTEP’s Vince Hunter is turning pro

UTEP’s Vince Hunter is forgoing his final two years of eligibility to turn pro, according to ABC-7’s news partners at 600 ESPN El Paso.

“I just spoke with Tim Floyd and Vince Hunter will enter the NBA Draft and not return to UTEP,” 600 ESPN El Paso’s Steve Kaplowitz tweeted Thursday morning.

Hunter led the Miners this year in three categories with a 14.9 points per game average, 9.2 rebounds a game, and 1.2 steals a game.

Hunter’s leaving early might not come as a shock to some.

One reason it looked like Hunter might be leaving UTEP for a shot at the pros was his tweet on March March 15 that some interpreted as possibly being a “goodbye.”

When it was announced on March 15 UTEP would be playing Murray State in the NIT, Hunter tweeted ,”Blessed and happy to be playing another game in a Utep uniform.”

About 30 minutes later, he tweeted he was blessed to play another game with seniors C.J. Cooper, Julian Washburn, and Cedric Lang.

ABC-7 caught up with Hunter outside the Foster Stevens Center at UTEP on the morning of March 18 and asked him if he’d be returning for his junior year.

“No comment,” Hunter responded. “I’m just not trying to talk about it right now.”

ABC-7 asked Hunter again if he would be returning, Again, Hunter said “no comment.”

“I’m just trying to get rest, get off the plane. I’m not trying to answer (any) questions about anything,” Hunter told ABC-7.

The deadline for college underclassmen to declare for the NBA Draft is April 26. A player that declares for the draft can still withdraw his name later if he does not retain an agent.

Hunter had 11 points and 11 rebounds against Murray State to give him his 13th triple double of the season.

Projections for Vince Hunter

ESPN has Hunter with an overall rank of 108 and position rank of 24. They project him to be a second round pick or to go undrafted.

Sports Illustrated says, The 20-year-oldis not projected to be selected in DraftExpress.com’s latest mock draft. The site ranks him 30th among college sophomores.”

From April 1 MinerRush.com piece

NBADraft.net has Hunter going to the Atlanta Hawks with the 50 th overall pick in the second round of the 2015 draft.

CBS Sports’ Sam Vecenie, Gary Parrish, and Zach Harper don’t have VH in either round of their 2015 separate mock draft(s).

DraftExpress.net does not show Hunter as lock in the 2015 draft.
