worth of counterfeit products that is what the department of homeland security investigations confiscated in the past 8 months alone. most would probably guess purses- watches- and sports jerseys. but a trend in what federal authorities are finding — is alarming … ABC-7’s jerry najera sat down with the special agent in charge of homeland security — he’s live with the story … rick estela many are out to find a better deal for products. but a better price doesn’t necessarily mean a better product. especially when it your life depends on it. when you think counterfeit a few things might come to mind. maybe some clothing or electronics. “w have ongoing efforts everyday to identify disrupt and dismantle activity concerning counterfeit products” waldmar rodriguez i the special agent in charge for homeland security investigations. rodriguez tells me they work relentlessly alongside customs and border protection to keep counterfeit products off the street. he tells me he hasn’t seen a rise in fake goods but he has seen changes in how the products are moved. “right no we see more products being imported from china and those products being exported to mexico for sale” as many would expect yo can find counterfeit products like shirts,jerseys and popular electronics. “as you can se this is beats brand by doctor dre well the problem with this is that beats does not manufacture this product” bu counterfeit products that are a little more eye opening are the ones that involve our safety “ther were some seizures of counterfeit airbags” and even worse “there have been some instances where aviation parts have been detected to be counterfeit introduced in the supply chain” thats right airplane parts and rodriguez says these products do not meet the same quality specifications as the original. beside safety rodriguez warns consumers theres’ more to it than getting a better price. “they are also causing the united states to lose revenue and us jobs” special agent rodriguez says stick to reputable vendors and a good rule of thumb if the price is too good to be true it probably is. an update to a story we brought you last night
