Man killed in deadly stabbing identified
UPDATE: El Paso Police have identified the man killed in a stabbing late Sunday night.
The investigation by the Crimes Against Persons Unit (CAP) revealed that officers responding to 8735 Dyer on a stabbing found two persons with stab wounds. Both were taken to the hospital.
The victim, 33-year old Steven Josef, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The arrestee, 30-year old Rudy Hurtado, was admitted with non-life threatening injuries.
Upon being released from the hospital, Hurtado will be booked into the El Paso
County Detention Facility on one count of Murder with a $500,000 bond.
This investigation is ongoing and more arrests are possible.
ORIGINAL: One person is dead after a stabbing in Northeast El Paso Sunday night.
The incident began shortly before midnight. According to police, the victim was stabbed several times after getting into a fight outside an apartment complex off of Robert Drive. Police say the victim managed to cross Dyer, and passed out at the Hawaiian Royale Motel.
Police say they do have a suspect in custody. Neither the name of the victim or the suspect has been released. The victim is identified as being 33 years old.
Police shut down the 8700 block of Dyer to both directions of traffic overnight to conduct their investigation. As of 6:30 Monday morning, police said the street would remain closed for several more hours.
Initially, it was reported that there were two stabbing victims. However, police have clarified that there is only one. The confusion was due to police and EMS crews responding to different crime scene locations.
