Possible TB Exposure at Halfway House

of el paso’s lower valley. residents and employees at a halfway house told abc-7 today they were being tested for tuberculosis. we’re talking about dismas charities — located on the 7- thousand block of alameda near ascarate park. the halfway house has about 150 residents. today, abc-7 spotted numerous residents and employees — and even interns of the halfway house — going in and out for what they told us was t-b testing. a halfway house intern — who happens to be a fort bliss soldier — told us he was told one of the residents had tuberculosis and that’s why everyone had to be tested … especially those who leave the facility and go home to their families: stuart gordon: “we’re jus wondering what’s going on? they call you to be tested for tb today is that’s what’s going on? yeah i think so … one of the residents had tb so for a precaution they’re just having us come in and get tested, especially ones, because we leave here and go home to our families and stuff like that … but right now that’s all i know.” officials at dismas charities would not speak with us, referring all questions to the department of public health. at the beginning of the month, we told you about a tuberculosis exposure at frank macias elementary in horizon city. last week, the health macias elementary in horizon city. last week, the health macias elementary in horizon city. last week, the health department told abc-7 163 students and eight staff members were potentially exposed. the health department told us someone at the school had active t-b and the school’s second graders could be at risk. at last check — 146 students had been tested. abc-7’s darren hunt has just learned 35 people tested positive for t-b with two tests still pending. we’re trying to find out how many of those are students. we plan to joins a news conference live in just a few minutes. a city-county health department news conference is underway. as rick mentioned, we’re also
