Dispute between Vista Hills Country Club and Vista Hills Management Group

A dispute between the Vista Hills Country Club and its former events contractor has left dozens of El Pasoans in a limbo.

Dave Casmus, the Vice-President of the Vista Hills Country Club confirms no events have been cancelled but he says a third party contractor, Vista Hills Management Group, is to blame for dozens of customers needing to start planning all over again.

“It’s very bothersome to me that the good name of the Vista Hills Country Club is being dragged down because of Autry and the Vista Hills Management Group,” Casmus said.

Last week the country club was notified the owner of the company that caters its events left town, but the owner of that group, Marvin Autry, says he doesn’t have that money.

“It’s basically in the board’s hands, they have my deposit, they should do the right thing and take care of all the customers,” Autry told Abc-7 over the phone.

The partnership between the two companies just began in December. In July, a notice was put on the doors of the club, locking the group out because Autry allegedly owed it thousands of dollars.

“They just started calling customers up, which weren’t their customers to begin with, they’re my customers that I acquired and they just started calling them up and telling them that their future events were going to be cancelled,” Autry said.

Documents show dozens of customers paid Autry nearly $15,000 in deposits. Autry claims he paid that money to the club.

“The country club was paid rents and deposits, and actually, the board has an $18,000 deposit for covenants,” Autry said.

“No checks ever came to the Vista Hills Country Club, no cash was collected at the Vista Hills Country Club, to the club, it was all collected by Mr. Autry or his employees and it went to Mr. Autry,” Casmus said.

Autry says he plans to return from Mexico and file suit against the club. Casmus says they are honoring the dates and deposits for the 43 customers, and they plan to sue Autry.
“I have no idea, why Mr. Autry would make those claims,” Casmus said.

Autry says he plans to return from Mexico where he plans to file suit. Casmus says they’re working with customers to get their deposits back. Those who paid in cash will need to file a police report.
