pius special needs folklorico group, estrellitas de dios, has been invited to perform at the 2015 world games special olympics later this month in california. with an anticipated 500-thousand spectators expected, these dancers are ready to represent el paso on a global stage. photojournalist esmeralda ojeda shows us how they are preparing. “nats music “it’s wonderful that we got invited to the world games because this is such a great honor for them. to represent el paso. and so that other people too can see that there’s just no limitations to our kids. that they can do anything that’s out there.” “i think, it means the world th world to me. i am very excited. it is the very first time ever, ever that we’ve been invited to something like this.” “since i’m blind, see with my ears. so i like to, i like music. i just like dancing. i like the audience experience. them seeing me perform. that brings me a lot of joy.” “na music” “our name is estrellitas de dios, which means god’s little stars.” “god’s ha picked them each and given them yeah, a disability, but whatever they’re missing, god has replenished that, and that’s why their stars.” “don’t eve sell yourself short. i mean, yes, you have a disability, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t dance, you can’t run, you can’t do anything.” “you can do so much more than what we think that they’re possible of.” “s senor!” estrellitas de dios is hoping to fundraise 30- thousand dollars to help get the group to los angeles by july 24th. the autism society of el paso has already donated 25-hundred, and they are now challenging other local groups and businesses to help match that donation. to donate or to become a sponsor, just contact st. pius catholic church. not a whole lot of storms out there at this point – most well to our
