UTEP Miner Hockey Hitting the Ice This Fall

The UTEP Miners have added a new sport to their resume; ice hockey. The Miner hockey club is brand new to the school and will start its first season in October of 2015.

The President of the hockey club, Josh Baeza, is excited for a chance to play the sport he loves right in El Paso.

“If it wasn’t for this I don’t see any other opportunity for me to play hockey,” Baeza said. “So this is just an amazing opportunity and I am really grateful for it.”

Details are still limited at this time, but ABC 7 discovered the Miner home games will be played at the Sierra Providence Events center. That is the same ice rink as the junior hockey team El Paso Rhinos.

The club will compete in the American Collegiate hockey conference in division II. The Miners will play against teams such as NMSU, Texas Tech, Texas A&M and other schools.
