Las Cruces Church Explosions Update: Security camera at church doesn’t record video

It’s quiet outside Calvary Baptist Church this Monday.

But a small amount of debris on the lawn and on concrete from an explosive that went off on Sunday morning shows it is still a scene that is anything but a typical Monday.

Investigators worked through the night into early this morning taking measurements and evaluating evidence outside of Calvary Baptist Church.

There is one security camera in the entry way of the church that points near the mailbox area where the explosive was detonated.

The administrative office uses that security camera to look at who’s entering the front door.

Church leaders tell ABC-7 that the camera doesn’t record video.

One church member says he hopes new security measures will be put in place after Sunday’s attack.

“I hope so because, I mean, it’s been a situation that I wouldn’t expect here,” said church member John Brenner. “It’s a quiet city and for something like this to happen it kind of shakes you. But for two churches the same day 30 minutes apart, it’s kind of ironic but also in a way planned.”

A second explosion occurred at Holy Cross Roman Catholic in Las Cruces on Sunday morning. Holy Cross is just a few miles from Calvary Baptist.
