El Paso Fire Department responded to several weather-related calls Sunday night, early Monday morning

The El Paso Fire Department responded to several weather-related incidents Sunday, Aug. 2 and overnight into Monday, Aug. 3.

VEHICLE/STREETS/ETC:

CENTRAL: 8 vehicle incidents, all minor. Locations include: I-10, Raynor, Piedras, Gateway, Throwbridge and US-54. El Paso Police and tow trucks showed up and cleared the scene.
FAR EAST: 1 minor vehicle incident in Zaragoza area.
EASTSIDE: 1 minor vehicle incident along Airway and Boeing area

LIGHTNING/FIRE/ETC:

The Fire Dept. received six calls and responded to all of them.

Lightning hit palm tree on Piedras and sparked fire. Crew put it out and only palm tree was damaged.
Lightning hit pole that then sparked fire on grass of home located on 6200 block of Caprock. Crews put it out and only grass was damaged.
Lightning hit transformer at apartments on 9300 block of Viscount. There was no fire but El Paso Electric responded to scene.
– 6. Fire Dept. checked out these 3 other calls about possible fires, but they weren’t anything once they inspected the scenes.

WATER RESCUES:

Crews were on standby but there were no water rescues reported.
