Binational 10K Run Sends A Message

and juarez. as angela kocherga shows us – the 10k run – was about much more than being first to cross the finish line. 1:08) the race began at the border – with more than 900 runners making their way across a downtown bridge from el paso to juarez. 8:05:the energy that was felt at the start line was amazing. it was a beautiful thing. and the 10k race is also historic, the first binational run since september 11. the goal: offer a view of the border as a thriving community rather than a region crippled by cris. among the runners: congressman beto o’rouke of el paso :34 the border is a place of incredible beauty and also strength for our two countries. it is what has made the us so successful. it is what has made mexico so successful in juarez residents lined the route to cheer on the runners. this street vender stocked his ice chest with fresh carrot, cactus, and paya juice. 10:35 energetico, bien rico. the huge turnout is another sign that after years of coping with drug violence juarez has found some peace — and visitors are returning. 11:05 i imagine there are a lot of people who haven’t been to juarez in years running with us today. i hope it takes, i hope they keep coming. 8:15 this is the finish line but many hope it’s just the start of renewed purpose, a shared purpose and a deeper understanding that to succeed these two sister cities must come together. the race ended back across the border in el paso with an award ceremony — but from the look of pride on their faces, every runner who criss crossed the border felt like winner. and this is the first cross border race across since september 11th.
