Las Cruces man who allegedly threatened pastor with knife released by judge

Pastor Robert Ramzy of Greater Saint John Church of God says he began receiving threats earlier in the week and he wishes they were taken more seriously. He says the messages were from Wright’s roommate, who said Wright was threatening to blow up the church.

“And he’s going to wait until everybody is in the church and bomb it and blow all them devils back to ell when people make threats…” Ramzy said, while reading the text messages.

Ramzy says Wright also vandalized the churches front door.

“I’m quite sure you can’t act on everything but when someone threatens to bomb a church after the two church bombings after the text messages and all the stuff I have on my phone here someone should have paid it some kind of attention,” Ramzy said.

After Ramzy notified police of the vandalism he says police appeared to not take it as seriously until Sunday, when there was a physical threat. Wright approached Ramzy at the church and threatened him with a 10 inch knife. Wright was arrested and now Ramzy says he wonders if the warning signs on Saturday were taken seriously.

“Someone is going to have to lose their life or take a life defending their life in order for someone to pay attention,” Ramzy said.

Las Cruces police say the actions leading up to Sunday’s incident did not appear to be criminal.

“We take all threats or allegations seriously but we do have to have evidence,” Las Cruces Police spokesman Dan Trujillo said.

Trujillo says police were keeping a close eye on Wright after concerns were brought to their attention. He says they’re seeing if there are any ties between this incident and the two bombings that happened at two churches last week.

Wright was released today by a judge with out bond.
