Man shot, wounded overnight in Union Plaza entertainment district

A man was shot in face and another struck with the stock of a shotgun Saturday morning in the Union Plaza Entertainment District, police said.

The incident started with an argument between two groups about 2:15 a.m. in the 100 block of Anthony Street. One of the attackers, a man only described as being black and in his 20s, pulled out a shotgun from a vehicle. Police said the man hit a 25-year-old man in the head with the stock of the shotgun and shot a 21-year-old in the face.

Both men were treated a local hospital, and their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The gunman and another man in his 20s left the scene in a small dark vehicle.

Police said the shooting is not gang-related. Investigators urge anyone with information to call police at (915) 832-4400 or Crime Stoppers of El Paso at (915) 566-8477. Tipsters can remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward.
