Local church gives away 200 shoes

Hundreds of shoes were given out to children and families at the Abundant Living Faith Center Sunday morning.

Dozens of families showed up for the giveaway. Children lined up eager to pick out their favorite pair.

Some parents say shoes are just as important as school supplies.

“This close to the school year, it’s probably the most important.

We need our kids to have good shoes for school. They’ve got to play, they’ve got to run, they’ve got to dance,” said Jaime Aleman, a parent at the church.

The center managed to give away 200 pairs of shoes, which were purchased with the help of church donations.

“I’d like to believe that we are well off, but sometimes life does remind you that you’re not so well-off. So having that helping hand is also of big importance,” said Aleman.

Socorro ISD started school back in late July, but EPISD and YISD start next Monday.
