NMSU: Rose III Selected to Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List

TYLER, Texas – NM State football running back Larry Rose III has been selected to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Preseason Watch List as announced onWednesday. This accolade is awarded annually to the nation’s outstanding Division I college offensive player who is either born in Texas, graduated from a Texas high school or played at a Texas-based junior college or four year college.

This honor, presented by SPORTyler, Inc. in conjunction with the City of Tyler, the Tyler Convention & Visitors Bureau and Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce, is given to the Texas-associated player who best exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell, including integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, community, and tenacity – Specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.

Rose III played in 10 games and had eight starts during the 2014 season. He rushed for 1,102 yards on 186 carries to average 5.9 yards per carry and 110.2 yards per game. Rose III was the first NM State player to eclipse the 1,000-yard rushing mark since 2011 and was the first freshman to accomplish this feat since 1995.

Rose III led the team with nine rushing touchdowns, including a career-high two touchdowns against both Idaho and UL-Monroe. In addition, Rose III rushed for a career-high 229 yards against UL-Monroe. He was one of just sixSunBelt Conference players to rush for more than 200 yards in a single game.

The Aggies open the 2015 season on Sept. 5 as they travel to Gainesville, Fla. to take on the Gators in a 5:30 p.m. (MT) kickoff. The game will be televised on the SEC Network and will be on the radio on AM570 in Las Cruces.
