reminder about the do’s and don’ts of back-to- school. rick cabrera shares some safety tips in abc-7 listens. pkg it’s hard to figure out who’s more excited for the start of the school year … students … or their parents … worn out from having to entertain them the past few months. either way … we can all agree on the importance of safety around school zones. so, i wanted to share some tips from triple a of texas and new mexico. let’s start with the drivers. obviously slow down in those school zones. and stay alert … meaning put down the cell phone and don’t fiddle with your hair or the radio. always scan between parked cars … in case a child darts out. and please, please, please … always stop for school buses. you are required by law to stop on both sides of the street when a bus flashes its red light or extends its arm. as a reminder of how dangerous and clueless some drivers are … i dusted off this video i showed you last october. scary stuff! now for you students out there … you play a role too! please cross only at corners … not between cars. use a crosswalk and don’t assume a driver sees you. also, put away those headphones and cellphones when crossing the street. and same goes for when you are getting off that school bus … be alert! of course … most of us know these things and have probably shared them with our kids … but hopefully this will remind you to do it again … same goes for you drivers out there … please be careful around school zones. rick cabrera. abc-7 listens.
