NMSU Baseball: Aggies Have Top 40 Recruiting Class

New Mexico State Baseball Coach Brian Green knew the Aggies had a great recruiting class in 2015. His vision was confirmed this week whenCollegiate Baseballput the Aggies in the Top 40 of recruiting classes nationwide.

In the magazine’s annual evaluation of recruiting classes, New Mexico State ranked 37th, just above Alabama, Illinois and Kentucky.

“This is a great honor for Aggie Baseball,” said Green. “We thought going in that this class would garner national attention and it did.”

The Aggie boss was quick to share any praise with assistant coaches Joel Mangrum and Mike Brown.

“We hit it hard,” said Green. “We went out armed with the message about our facility improvements, our community support, what an outstanding school we have and what baseball means to our great state. Things are happening here. Our coaches did a great job.”

NM State unveiled a renovated Presley Askew Field last season and continued improvements throughout the summer.

The Top 40 list is led by four Southeastern Conference teams in the top five spots and six in the top ten. Florida’s class was ranked first, followed by South Carolina, and Mississippi State. Vanderbilt was fifth.

“The SEC is the premiere baseball conference in the country, one which I was honored to be a part of for six years. For our first recruiting class to be even mentioned with the likes of Alabama and Kentucky in the rankings is a tremendous honor for all of us,” said Green.

“Our first class is special to us, because these kids and families bought into a vision based on trust. We are excited to back it up each and every day.”

The Aggies recruiting class was the only Western Athletic Conference team and the only team in the state to reach the Top 40.

With 35 recruits in the class, the Aggies also sport the largest recruiting class among the ranked teams.

With the start of school, the Aggies have been able to hold individual workouts and Green is excited about the coming season.

“I’ve seen the guys for about a month in workouts. They have made a big impact on this team already.”
