Las Crucens recovering after hail damage
Saturday’s hail storm in Las Cruces left behind a lot of damage. So much, that startingTuesday, players at the Las Cruces Golf Club at Sonoma Ranch are finally allowed back on the entire course.
The back nine of the course openedTuesdaybut the rest of the course opened up onMonday.
The greens closedSaturdaybecause of damage from the storm. Small divots are still scattered all across the greens but some of them have been covered up.
Golf pro Gabriel Rubio tells ABC-7 that onSaturday, thousands of marks were left after heavy hail crashed onto the course. He says they’ve since done some repairs but it is costly.
ABC-7 spoke to some players on the course. They say while some leftover damage has made the game interesting, they aren’t going to let it stop them from having a good time.
“Little divots everywhere,” Las Cruces resident Valerie Gerhardt said. “But its still manageable. We’re still having a good time playing.”
Las Cruces Mayor Ken Miyagishima’s company Farmer’s Insurance has proclaimed the Las Cruces area a catastrophe zone. Miyagishima tells ABC-7 they’ve only declared Las Cruces a catastrophe area three times during his 30 years with the company.
Starting Tuesday, he says a group of adjusters from across the country will be giving estimates to Las Crucens who suffered storm damage.
“It allows more resources to be sent here,” Miyagishima said. “We usually have here on the ground on average a day six or seven adjusters. By having this catastrophe code we’ve probably tripled that amount so that policy holders can have access to adjusters on a more quicker and timely basis.”
Miyagishima says the best way to be prepared is to make sure your insurance coverage is up to date, that way you aren’t left hanging after a big storm.
