Teens who went on robbery spree are Irvin students

ABC-7 has been working around the clock to get the names of the five teens accused of robbing four stores and leading authorities on a high-speed chase Wednesday.

Officials from Otero County said they are 15-year-olds Edwin Rodriguez and Evelyn Brown and 14-year-olds Antonio Brown, Isaiah Garcia and Jaquil Webb.

Among the charges they face charges are aggravated assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon, possession of a stolen vehicle, conspiracy to commit possession of a stolen vehicle, tampering with or destroying evidence and conspiracy to commit tampering or destroying evidence.

Both Rodriguez and Garcia also face charges of resisting arrest. Rodriguez has additional charges including abuse of a child and aggravated fleeing of a law enforcement officer.

ABC-7 has also also uncovered where these teens went to school, confirming all five are freshman students at Irvin High School in Northeast El Paso.

“I see them around school and well they’re basically always in trouble,” said 16-year-old Irvin High sophomore Berenice Frayre. “They’re those little punks around school.”

Frayre told ABC-7 she is familiar with the five teens police say went on a robbery rampage using pellet guns this week before running from law enforcement nearly halfway to Alamogordo.

“It’s all over facebook and school,” Frayre said.

The 7-11 where the first robbery occurred, located at Railroad and Hondo Pass, is less than a mile from Irvin High School.

“We had PSAT (testing that day) and then we took a couple hours,” Frayre said. “From there we went to lunch so probably they did it after the PSAT or something.”

Frayre says they’re a distraction at school.

“Arguing with teachers, ditching, smoking at the park, stuff like that,” she said. “Here at Irvin a lot of kids are like, ‘Oh they’re savages!’ Stuff like that. They think it’s cool and stuff like that.”

ABC-7 asked Frayre why the teens would do such a thing.

“Money and I guess they wanted to have a reputation I guess,” Frayre said.

All five of the teenagers are are scheduled for their first court appearance and possible detention hearings Monday in the 12th Judicial District Court in Alamogordo.
