#UPDATE: Water main break shuts down stretch of George Dieter Drive

A water main break early Saturday morning shuts down a stretch of George Dieter Drive just before 4 a.m. south of Vista Del Sol Drive.

The rushing water also caused a large sinkhole. One car somehow ended up in the sinkhole.

Witnesses called our newsroom and said that a person had to break a window in the car to help the driver get out before it completely submerged.

Emergency dispatchers told ABC-7 that one person was taken to Del Sol Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

El Paso Water Utilities said they do not know how many residents were affected.

It is still unclear when the area between Pelicano and Vista Del Sol on George Dieter will reopen.

Updated information: El Paso Water Utilities crew is now on-site working on the main break. Approximately 524 customers in that area are without services. Water buffalo’s are en route to the areas.

North bound lanes along George Dieter remain closed between Pellicano Dr. & Vista Del Sol Dr.
