Eastside sink hole causes major headaches

are still without water and some lanes on george dieter are closed. it happened about 4 this morning near the intersection of george dieter and vista del sol. abc-7’s jerry najera got up close to that massive sinkhole. he also spoke with water utility officials. he joins us live tonight with our top story tonight … evan josie not only did this 20 foot deep sinkhole almost take someones life- its causing major headaches- traffic is being rerouted- residents have no water and businesses could stand to lose thousands of dollars. heavy machinery- utility crews and thousands of pounds of sludge take over what would normaly be a busy street. “at around three thirty this morning we had a water main break” saturda afternoon el paso water utilities spokesman javier camacho said they were still trying to find the source of the problem. “we have about 20 crew members from the el paso water utilities currently working on revealing where the water main break is” the crews know time is of the essence. a northbound lane on george dieter remains closed- turning a busy 4 lane street into a two lane road. “at 5 am we shut the water down to the customers in the area so we could get in there and begin work” about 5 hundred and twenty customers are without water. el paso water utilites placed several water buffalos holding 4-thousand gallons of water for customers to use. people at this apartment complex tell me they’ve been calling family members seeking a hot shower. but those imacted the most could be businesses. ” got a call that said im trying to buy water and no water came out” roger vega owns an ice and purified water dispensery-he could start losing money by saturday night “if i have a steady stream of customers i would say by 6 or 7 o clock. “so you might run out of ice by tomorrow” possibly” this cosmetolig school was forced shut it doors down for the day. “i’m just trying to figure out if we are going to open today or not” whiske dicks bar manager jesus chavirra tells me the nightspot is frequented by many eastsiders on the weekend. “today is saturday tonight’s the night a lot of people like to come out and have fun” he says the monsterous sink hole will likely keep the cash register empty. “how much money can you guys stand to lose? “we’re going to lose alot” it’s thousands probably? yeah..easy…easy… el paso water utilities say it’s possbile they could fix the water main break by tonight. so people might have water again soon. but paving the road… that will likely go into the work week. this is a look at george dieter at vista del sol. rember, a north bound lane on george dieter is open but a southbound lane was closed off to create two way traffic. evan josie. two las cruces men are recovering at umc after they were
