Canutillo High School student in custody after allegedly threatening teacher

El Paso Police say a teacher confronted two students suspected of smoking marijuana during lunch Thursday, Oct. 22.

One of the students, a 15-year-old boy, allegedly threatened to kill the teacher.

The teacher asked the student to step out of the class.

When the teacher stepped out into the hallway to check on the student, the teacher found the student cutting his arms with a knife.

Security officers immediately disarmed and detained the student.

Police say the student will be charged with making terroristic threats.

The high school was put on lockdown during the incident just after 1 p.m. The lockdown lasted for about 20 minutes.

“Dear Canutillo High School parents, students, staff and faculty,
CISD authorities issued a precautionary lock down around 1:00 p.m. today at the CHS campus. The lock down lasted approximately 20 minutes to ensure the safety of all students and to allow police to respond as quickly as possible. The situation is contained and everyone is ok. Safety is priority number one for CISD. As always, thank you for your concern and understanding,” Canutillo ISD said in a Facebook post shortly after 1:30 p.m.
