Neighbors shocked after alleged murder in east El Paso
ABC-7 is learning more about a murder in far east El Paso.Sheriff’s deputies say a man shot and killed his father Saturday night. Deputies were called to the 12,000 block of Stansbury Drive shortly after 11:30 p.m. When they arrived, a woman told deputies her son, Steven Apilado, shot her husband, Vincent Apilado.
That’s when deputies say 37-year-old Apilado barricaded himself in his home. Deputies say they were able to negotiate with him and a short time later, he was arrested and charged with murder.
Neighbors tell ABC-7 they are in disbelief.
“We have a lot of law enforcement that lives in the neighborhood so its very quiet and actually I feel very safe in this neighborhood,” one neighbor said.
“She just looked like she had gone through some terrible terrible events,” Robert Aguero said.
Aguero told ABC-7 he saw Vincent Apilado’s wife outside this afternoon. He says he didn’t really know the family, but he’s seen deputies called out to the home on Stansbury Drive multiple times.
“I just thought it was regular just fighting you know normal stuff,” he said.
But deputies say Steven Apilado allegedly shot and killed his father Vincent Apilado. Aspokeswoman confirms Apilodo allegedly then barricaded himself in his home for a half an hour before deputies arrested him.
Aguero says parts of the neighborhood were blocked off as deputies dealt with the situation.
“Officers outside just told us to stay inside not to come out,” Aguero said.
Aside from what happened, neighbors say they still feel safe.
Deputies say Apilado was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under a one million dollar bond.
