? baby it’s cold outside ? from our exclusive mountain cam up on the franklin mountans. and 7 inched of snow across the el paso las cruces area and that’s exacxtly what we got. we’re seeing record snowfall at the el paso international airport. that’s why we; a live look outside from our exclusive mountain cam up on the franklin mountans. good afternoon and thank you for joing us. i’m josie ortegon. evan folan is off today. let’s get right to stormtrack weather. stormtracker dan martinez and nichole gomez are in the weather lab with your first forecast. major winter storm is on the way out…with the upper low now over the big bend region and continuing moving east. west flow aloft will develop for the remainder of the week. a trough aloft will move across east… with a slight chance of snow for the mountains. southwest flow will develop friday and bring moisture and a chance of showers to the area friday night and saturday. temperatures will remain well below normal through the period. okay thanks dan and nichole we’ll check in with both of you in just a bit. you heard them. the borderland still under a first alert because of the in just a bit. you heard them. the borderland still under a first alert because of the possibility of black ice on the raods. let’s take a live look at the streets this afternoon with our tex-dot traffic camera system. slush, ice and snow on the road, be safe! the roads are fairly okay now, but it was a different story this morning. they were so bad a semi jackknifed on i-10 near vinton. it appears the semi crashed into a guardrail there. our abc-7 crews caught el paso county sheriff’s deputies responding. no word on any injuries. let’s take a look at your road closures this afternoon. we spoke with tx-dot they tell us scenic drive and transmoutnain remain closed. the anthony gap is now open. we also spoke with las cruces police and new mexico state police. there have been a total of 56 snow-related crashes within the last 24 hours. seven of those with injuries, it’s unclear how severe. they also tell us there were a total of 31 stranded and needing assisting in dona ana county that includes on i-10 and 1-25. the city of el paso’s street and maintenance crews worked overnight to salt and treat major roadways. side roads, bridges, and overpasses are getting priority…so those should be a little easier to drive on — especially for emergency responders. if you do have to drive… rember to go slow and give other vehicles plenty of wiggle room. montana and raynor wat and if you’re planning on heading out of town by air. the el paso international is operating, but there have been delays and cancellations. you can find the latest now on kvia dot com. click the travel icon at the top of our home page… you’ll find the latest information from airports all over the country … plus, texas and new mexico road conditions. the border land is still seeing effects from the winter weather this evening. our crews have been out all day monitoring the roads. abc-7 reporter jerry najera is out on the roads as we speak. he’s live from transmountain continuing our first alert coverage. jerry? josie like you said everything is claming down but don’t let that fool you just yet vo i want you to take a look at this video we shot earlier today. the slick roads caused this accident on 1-10 near airways. one person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. 2 lanes were closed on the freeway because of this and we actually saw a car skidding while trying to slow down almost causing another accident. we also caught with el paso electric crews in the lower valley they had finished replacing a pole that had collapsed from the weight of the snow and ice. txdot also telling me they still have crews deicing roads on i-10 loop 375 and us 54. and one of the reasons im out here is because txdot also told me they had a lot of issues with people parking on the side of the road out here and walking up transmountain to have some fun and take pictures. well they say they are monitoring that and calling police because its still very dangerous up here and its illegal..its considered trespassing. jerry thank you for that report. live from transmountain. thank you. after last night’s snowfall, many of the roads were left packed with piles of snow. take a look at this video shot in west el paso on stanton. snow was falling, but you can see a couple of people out walking, jogging and getting snow off of their cars. “yelling” fast forward–the snow stopped for a bit and the sun peaked out to provide some warmth for families to enjoy a snow day. this is video shot at album park. a lot of snowball fights and jolly snowmen around! our viewers are also part of the stormtrack weather team when you send in your photos using the hashtag abc-7 first alert. this is video of the snowy roads from abc-7 viewer vicki lee castro. you can help us continue our abc- seven first alert coverage.. … throughout this newscast.. and all evening on social media. check out kvia.com on facebook and the web. and on twitter, follow at-abc-7- breaking. to stay with us for important information. don’t forget to send us your pictures. make sure to snap some pics and shoot some video of the winter storm … and share them on social media. just use the hashtag “abc-7 first alert. we’ll share some of the ones you sent in later in the newscast. our new mexico mobile newsroom is also monitoring roads throughout dona ana county. our abc-7’s jamie warren is live from als cruces with the latest. jamie? ill have that part of the story next on abc7 at 10. meanwhile other parts of texas are dealing with severe weather. the national weather service says the tornado that hit the dallas area last night measured at least e-f-4 in damage strength. 11 people are confirmed dead after the strong tornado and severe storms ripped through north texas. the dallas suburb of garland was the hardest hit, with 8 people killed and 15 injured. 3 people were killed in nearby collin county. the tornado left a trail of destruction in its wake, with more than 600 buidlings damaged. texas governor gregg abbott made a disaster proclamation for several texas counties. …to stormtrack weather. stomtracker dan martinez and nichole gomez are in the weather lab to continure our complete first alert coverage dan… our significant winter storm has moved into the borderland early this afternoon and will continue to bring more snowfall tonight and into sunday. 3 to 7 inches of snow will be common in the lowlands east of deming. 1 to 3 inches of snow is possible in western luna…western grant…and hidalgo counties. up to 1 to 2 feet of snow will be possible in the sacramento mountains. impacts will include auto and air travel disruptions saturday night through sunday. dress warmly and protect yourself against cold temperatures tonight and on sunday. the storm should be tapering off and moving east out of the borderland later sunday. as for the rest of the week… other than some light mountain snow showers in the gila wilderness and sacramentos tuesday…most of our area will be we will be dry …but temperatures will continue to run around 10 degrees below average. dan, thank you. we’re taking a look at our complete abc-7 network of cameras. we’re bringing you live looks of the entire borderland. one of those cameras is the abc-7 downtown camera on top of the chase building. keep those photos and videos coming in. using the hashtag abc-7 first alert. we’ll share some videos coming up. stay with us. a live look outside from our exclusive mountain cam up on the franklin mountans. the borderalnd remains under that first alert. our stormtrack weather team told you about the snow storm earlier this week. we saw the brunt of it overnight and
