Fort Bliss soldier accused of shooting bouncer outside Central El Paso bar

Fort Bliss investigators turned over to El Paso police a soldier accused of shooting a bouncer last month.

Jonathan De La Cruz, 26, was allegedly acting rowdy inside Rumors Bar before the bouncer escorted him out shortly after closing time on Dec. 20.

De La Cruz allegedly went to his car and returned with a handgun and approached the bouncer. There was a struggle for the gun before the bouncer, 31-year-old Maurice Antonio Drake, was shot in the hand, investigators said said.

De La Cruz allegedly left, while Drake was taken University Medical Center.

Today, Fort Bliss Criminal Investigators took De La Cruz into custody and turned him over to Crimes Against Persons detectives.

De La Cruz was charged with aggravated assault, He was booked into the El Paso County Jail with bond set at $5,000.
