Suspects in killing of EPCC professor arrested in San Diego

UPDATE: Police say65-year-old Javier Arrellano Quinones is charged with one count of murder in the death of William John Wolff. Quinones is identified as the victim’s former father-in-law.

According to investigators, Wolff was awarded custody of his 2-year-old daughter, but his ex-wife, 35-year-old Erika Wolff, fled to Mexico with the child. Police confirm arrests warrants for interference with child custody were obtained for the ex-wife and both her parents. All three were taken into custody at a port of entry in California. They are being held at the San Diego county jail.

ORIGINAL STORY: Still no arrests a month after a popular El Paso Community College professor was murdered.

Fourty-one year-old William John Wolff was found dead in Northeast El Paso at about 5 p.m. on Dec. 5. Wolff was a Cathedral High graduate, had a bachelor’s degree from Our Lady of the Lake and master’s degrees from Tulane, UTEP and NMSU.

Wolff’s body was found in the 4000 block of Skyline, right in front of his brother, Erick Wolff’s, law office, next to U.S.-54. Police continue to ask for the help of the public in solving this murder mystery.

“It’s been a month and a day since this murder happened and we know that somebody saw something out there,” said Javier Sambrano, coordinator for Crime Stoppers of El Paso, who made it clear that investigators are looking for help in solving the month-old murder of Wolff. “It was reported around 5 p.m., but it is believed to have happened between 4 and 5 p.m. It came in as actually a ‘subject down’ call, so that’s what officers were dispatched out to the scene. When they arrived, they did find, of course, Mr. Wolff had been fatally shot.”

Wolff’s brother’s heavily-gated law office, where his body was found, sits right next to a very busy U.S. 54. ABC-7 found it all locked up and employees of a food truck, located across the street, said it’s been this way since Wolff was murdered.

“They did have some dogs there, and actually that was part of the reason that the brother had gone over there, to take care of the dogs that they had there,” Sambrano said. “So that was part of the reason he had gone there to that area.”

When ABC-7 looked in the window of the law office, a box of dog biscuits was spotted on a table. Those who work in the area, however, were hesitant to speak about the murder since it has not been solved, making many more than a little nervous.

“Somebody must have seen something,” Sambrano said. “It was daylight hours. We know that somebody has some information. We need them to call.”

Wolff had a two-year-old daughter. Attempts to reach his family were unsuccessful.
