Light snow falls in Anthony

Light snow fell in east Las Cruces, Anthony and Chaparral on Monday.

It started sprinkling lightly in Anthony, but it wasn’t long before the ground, trees and signs were blanketed with a thin layer.

Although the ABC7 StormTRACK weather team warned viewers about the snow-mix last week when it issued its ABC-7 first alert, people we were still caught off guard.

“Very unexpected,” one Anthony resident said. “We were having nice weather and now all of a sudden we have snow.”

A spokeswoman for the New Mexico Department of Transportation tells ABC-7 there aren’t any major road closures but crews did have to clear snow along portions of Highway 70 on the way to White Sands. They’re warning drivers to be careful as that road may freeze overnight.
