LCPS holds school board meeting following accusations by Sec

story on mind tonight. tonight was the first meeting since the secretary of education threatened the board with suspension if certain training was not completed within 60 days. in 9 separate allegations… secretary hanna skandera alleges l- c-p-s board president maria flores did not follow the rules when recording meeting minutes… she also accused flores of making decisions without the board’s approval… and of telling superintendent stan rounds they didn’t have to act on a directive by skandera to report teacher absences. the letter also alleges the board asked rounds to leave an open meeting abc-7’s jamie warren was at tonight’s meeting. she’s live from our new mexico mobile newsroom. jamie? this is the letter that caused a lot of controversy last week alleging complaints of rolling quorums and the board over stepping authority today here in the meeting, board president maria flores continued to dispute the violations at one point telling the board “sh broke down crying” because of the toll it’s taken on her . today board members also approved that legal council prepare a response to skandera. one of the allegations stated in the letter was that flores hired a new attorney with out consent of the board—but she and other members today agreed they voted on it. flores said it is all a misunderstanding that she stepped outside of her authority. we caught up with her after the meeting, where she told us it felt like a political game. she felt like a political game. she also said she wasn’t a fan of that 60 day training skandera is forcing the board to undergo. flores wasn’t the only one disputing skanderas letter, it also rallied up members of the public 3:46;01 board president maria flores i dont think its necessary but i don’t want to lose my position and it is a republican tactic actually to quell local control :43:40 dr. earl nissen, las crucen im asking that the board of education ask her to come here for a townhall meeting so we can straighten out some of her opinion instead of getting it throuhj the chamber of commerce or anybody else when we spoke with skandera last week she stood by all 9 of the allegations telling us the board should take them very seriously new at ten. tonight a new mexico senate committee passed a bill lawmakers call a “compromise” aimed at making t state compliant under the federal real id act. senators voted 8- to-one
