Former UTEP softball coach now playing at national level

Sara Plourde has played softball ever since she was 9 years old, and that commitment has well paid off.

“I love just being able to have command of the game, and the rhythm of the game,” Plourde said. “I love being able to throw a pitch where no one knows what’s coming. Maybe I deceive them maybe I don’t.”

Plourde is set to pitch for the Canadian National Softball team for her third time.

“So I just got my dual citizenship years ago and then from there I was able to play, went to the tryouts, I made the team, made the cut, and then made the final selection camp,” Plourde said.

Plourde was the starting pitcher at Umass Amherst for 3 years, where she set a school record for the most strikeouts and currently sits at 8th in the nation for the most strikeouts.

Plourde then moved to El Paso to become the softball pitching coach for one year. But now she is making yet another return to the Canadian national team.

Plourde and the entire team will head to California on June to begin training camp.
