UTEP makes USA TODAY Sports Women’s Basketball Coaches Top-25 Poll

The Miners checked in at 25th after garnering 38 points in the USA TODAY Sports women’s basketball coaches top-25 poll.

UTEP is one of eight teams in the nation to have two or fewer overall losses. The team previously enjoyed winning streaks of eight and 10 games.

The Miners, who had secured at least one vote in the poll for the previous five weeks, burst through after pushing their win streak to seven while also staking their claim to the 2016 Conference USA regular-season crown.

The effort has locked up the program’s fourth 20+ win season in the past five years and the sixth overall; all have come under the direction of head coach Keitha Adams.

The USA TODAY Sports women’s basketball coaches poll, which started in 1986, is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of head coaches at Division I schools. The panel is chosen by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

The members represent each of the 32 Division I conferences that receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Each coach submits a Top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.

UTEP will wrap up the regular season when it plays at UTSA at 6 p.m. Thursday . The game will be carried by 600 ESPN El Paso and fans can also watch live on the C-USA digital network.
