Socorro High School placed on lockdown

Socorro High School was placed on lockdown Friday afternoon as a precautionary measure after someone was found near the campus with a handgun, according to the district.

A spokesperson for the Socorro Independent School District said the person apprehended was not a student.

The lockdown was lifted as soon as police finished their activities.

SISD released the following statement regarding the lockdown: “Socorro High School was placed on lockdown as a precaution after receiving a report from district police that an individual was apprehended near the campus. The person was found to be carrying a weapon. Out of abundance of caution, the campus was placed on lockdown while police conducted their activities. Students are safe and under the supervision of school faculty and staff. Classes remain on normal schedule. Thank you for your continued trust and support of Team SISD.”
