Woman hospitalized after overnight house fire

El Paso firefighters say a woman in her 70s was sent to the hospital after a fire broke out in her home overnight.

The incident happened after 2 a.m. on the 1100 block of Ange Street in Central El Paso. Emergency crews say a 78 year old woman was able to safely evacuate the home before they arrived, but say she was taken to Providence Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

Firefighters say the blaze destroyed about 50% of the home. Damage is estimated at $80,000. Firefighters say the house had no working smoke alarms.

Authorities have not said what caused the fire.
