pounds of tr according to the environmental protection agency. but an el paso man says he doesn’t produce that much trash so he shouldn’t have to pay for trash pick up. here’s estela casas with today’s abc seven listens. ernesto is upset. he claims he doesn’t produce enough trash to fill his bin. “i do not want to keep any of m trash collection bins since i hardly have any trash to dispose of. “i am wasting m money on something that i do not use. they refuse to take back the trash cans. “wh i have to pay for trash collection if i do not use it? “i paid for water bills, but do not need to pay for the trash bins since i do not use them.” so we made some phone calls to environmental services and here is what we learned: “city ordinance requires that w provide solid waste service to our residential customers. the only way to stop the solid waste service would be if that residence did not have any water service provided by epwu.” so the two go hand i hand and can’t be separated. ernest didn’t tell us his age, but i can tell you that senior citizens are offered a discount. environmental services offers them a 20-percent discount of the base fee which is $17 plus tax. with the discount it comes out to about $13.60 plus tax. ernest, if you’re a senior citizen you can call 3-1 and get that 20 percent discount. citizen collection stations only accept waste/trash from people with current water billls. but the city’s landfills are open to everyone- for a fee. so ernest, if you have running water in your home, you have to pay for track pick up – even if you don’t produce 29-pounds of trash a week or add to the 2.6 billion pounds of trash people produce around the world. estela casas abc seven listens. south
