Memorial Services for Fallen Officer David Ortiz
The El Paso Police Department, along with his family, has finalized the Memorial Services for Fallen Officer David Ortiz.
The public viewing will be held at Sunset Funeral Home on Thursday, March 17,
2016 from 4:00pm until 9:00pm. There will be a Rosary prayed in his honor beginning at 7:00pm at that location as well.
On Friday, March 18, 2016 Officer Ortiz will be memorialized in a Mass at St. Peter and Paul Church beginning at 11:30am. The church is located in El Paso County at 673 Old Hueco Tanks.
Following the mass, a police escort will lead Officer Ortiz to his final resting place at Mt. Carmel Cemetery located at 401 South Zaragoza.
The public is invited to attend the services but please note that parking will be limited at the church and there will be road closures in and around the Church and Cemetery to allow for the procession to travel from place to place.
The funeral procession route is tentatively scheduled to travel Westbound on North
Loop from the Church to Yarbrough, South on Yarbrough to Alameda, and then East on Alameda, passing by his Alma Mater, Ysleta High School.
The procession will then travel South on Zaragoza and enter the Cemetery from Zaragoza. Road closures are anticipated between the hours 12:30pm and 2:00pm in these areas.
Officer David Ortiz died Monday after bafter being hit from behind by a car while he was stopped at a red light on Lee Trevino Drive at Vista Del Sol.
Ortiz was with the police department for nine years and was a traffic officer assigned to the Pebble Hills Regional Command.
The name of the man who hit Officer Ortiz has not yet been released, and the crash remains under investigation.
