El Paso man killed in crash near Pecos
An El Paso man is dead following a crash in Reeves County, Texas, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. This happened Wednesday morning around 2:45 a.m. on RM 652 just west of Orla, Texas.
Orla lies about 38 miles north of Pecos.
DPS states 49-year-old Charlie Hardy of El Paso was driving east on RM 652 in a 2006 Peter Tank with crude oil. It appears Hardy fell asleep at the wheel and drifted in the westbound lane, crashing into a 2014 Mack TTST driven by 50-year-old Antonio Gusto Urquiola of Hobbs, New Mexico.
DPS states Urquiola attempted to evade Hardy, but couldn’t. Hardy was pronounced dead by JP Heriberto Rodriguez. Urquiola was taken to Reeves County Hospital where he was treated and released.
Urquiola was wearing his seat belt. It was unknown if Hardy was wearing his seat belt.
